Brisbane Mt Coot-tha Lookout

Mt Coot-tha Lookout offers great views over Brisbane city by day and at night the city in lights under the stars is truly spectacular. On a clear day with good weather, you can see the Brisbane River winding as far as the islands of Moreton Bay.

Mt Coot-tha Reserve is only a short trip from the city centre by bus. At the foot of the mountain are the Botanical Gardens with many picnic areas, lakes, exotic plant species, Japanese Garden and restaurant.

Walking tracks are also scattered over the mountain including JC Slaughter Falls which also has a picnic ground. Several different Aboriginal art sites are located along the Aboriginal art trail, offering a special insight into the cultural origins of the area.

The bushland reserve of Mt Coot-tha is part of the neighbouring Brisbane Forest Park. A diverse range of wildlife and fauna can be found throughout the National Park reserve. You might even be lucky enough to see a koala.

You can obtain a map from the Lookout explaining walking tracks and the history of Mt Coot-tha. While at the Lookout you can grab a coffee from the Kuta café or a larger meal from the Summit restaurant, known for its fine dining awards and amazing views from outside deck or inside seating. A gift shop is also located at the observatory.

The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium within the Botanical Gardens is open daily with regular shows and cosmic displays. Discover a whole new world with the stars, planets, constellations and solar systems as seen from Australia.
